Boyne AC athletes show true grit in horrendous weather at Glenmore Cross Country

In what can only be described as a true test of grit and determination, Boyne AC athletes proved their mettle at yesterday’s Glenmore AC Cross Country event on the grounds of Bush Primary School.

Battling torrential rain, fierce winds, and a yellow wind warning, these phenomenal runners donned their spikes, Boyne AC tops, and shorts to take their place at the starting line against some of the region’s finest athletes.

It was a day for the fearless and each Boyne AC competitor rose to the challenge and ran as though the weather didn’t exist, keeping pace with the leading pack in every race, battling fiercely for every position, and ultimately delivering performances that made everyone connected with the club proud.

Cormac Brodigan ran like a seasoned pro in the U10 race, staying in contention with the leaders and surging to secure a well-earned 4th place. His powerful finish showed the strength and determination that has become the hallmark of Boyne AC athletes.

In the same category, Folasade Bello Osagie and Una McEntee were equally impressive, staying firmly in the mix with the top runners. Folasade’s 5th place and Una’s 7th place were a testament to their ability to dig deep and fight for every inch of the course.

In the U12 1200m races, Caithlin Hughes proudly represented the girls, battling fiercely to finish in an impressive 9th place. Meanwhile, her brother Conor took on the boys’ 1200m race, pushing through the pack and finishing strong in 11th place. Both siblings showcased incredible determination and skill in their respective events.

Over in the U14 2100m race, Izzy Winters showed why she’s one to watch. Racing against an elite field, Isabelle held her own with a strong, composed run, crossing the line in 6th place, proving that she thrives even under the toughest conditions.

The U16 athletes faced the gruelling 3000m distance, but Boyne AC’s Jack Willis and Eoin McEntee were undeterred. Jack was in the hunt for a podium spot throughout, eventually finishing in a brilliant 4th place, while Eoin displayed incredible resilience to take 5th, both boys showing immense talent and heart.

The camaraderie of Boyne AC shone through as athletes cheered each other across the finish line, embodying the spirit of the club despite the harsh conditions. Against fierce competition and tough weather, Boyne AC delivered unforgettable performances, proving why they are a force to be reckoned with.

This was no ordinary race, it was a battle, and Boyne AC rose to the challenge, showing they belong among the very best.
