Louth County Council’s €17.8m Road Works Programme 2024 is approved

Louth County Council’s Road Works Programme 2024 has been approved by Council members at their March Municipal District meetings, with €17.8 million now set to be invested in roads and infrastructure across the county.

The programme covers a range of works, of which 68 per cent (€12 million) involves the maintenance and improvement of the regional and local road network within the county.

A total of 64 roads will be subject to specific resurfacing/restoration works as part of the approved 2024 programme.

This investment includes a specific allocation of €1 million for 16 roads in the north Louth area that were severely damaged by last October’s severe flood event, which was allocated by the Department of Transport in response to a funding submission by Louth County Council.

Funding has also been provided under several other work programme headings including Bridge Rehabilitation, Drainage Works, Bus Shelters, Climate Change & Resilience Works, Community Improvement Scheme (CIS) and Traffic Calming Measures.

A total of 12 projects are earmarked to be completed in 2024 to target traffic calming measures/low-cost safety measures in selected locations where the need for such measures have been identified.

Welcoming the adoption of the Road Works Programme by each of the three Municipal Districts, Director Service for Placemaking & Physical Development David Jones said, ‘The funding allocations provided by Government, supplemented by just over €3 million from the Council’s own resources, will allow for a significant programme of road improvement works and related projects across County Louth during 2024’.

The Programme is funded by the Department of Transport (€12,899,450), with funding also provided by Transport Infrastructure Ireland in relation to National roads (€1,214,795), National Transport Authority regarding the provision of bus shelters (€500,000) and Louth County Council (€3,197,836).
