Callan calls for Garda patrols on Ramparts to tackle anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour has been a blight on the Drogheda community for years, but Independent Councillor Kevin Callan has called for more Garda patrols to put a stop to it.

Sickened by recent anti-social behaviour on the Ramparts Walkway, Councillor Callan has said that this behaviour must be stopped with increased policing, particularly in the evenings and at night time.

The Councillor was reacting to recent complaints he received about this activity at the ramparts including the public area being used as a dumping ground with some people pulling the public bin apart and trying to set it on fire on the walkway.

“The question that has to be asked is why some people do not give a damn and damage a public amenity” Callan said.

“Only a few days before this most recent incident, the Ramparts played a part in the Boyne 10k showing our town at its best, then we have this type of activity.

“It is unacceptable that some think it’s ok to do this and that others whether council staff or volunteers like Tidy Towns will just come in and clean up after them.

“I am requesting that Drogheda Gardaí increase patrols in this area throughout the coming weeks, we cannot have such behaviour which many find intimidating, to continue.

“No one out for a walk or run should be confronted on a narrow walkway by a group burning a public bin.”
