Tomas Wilkinson, who has been announced as the Fianna Fáil candidate in the Drogheda Rural Local Electoral Area, has said that, if elected, one of his priorities will be to address the lack of support for children with additional needs.
Tomas, born and raised in Clogherhead and a long-time member of Fianna Fáil, said he was delighted to accept the nomination from the party and the response to his candidacy from the local community has been very heart warming.
He said: “I’m getting a great response at the doors. My priorities really seem to be resonating with people.
“As the father of children both with additional needs and without, I know how important it is that we have a considered approach to caring and supporting children that takes each of their individual needs into account.
“There is a real lack of support for children with additional needs, particularly in our local community, which must be addressed immediately. I will be a strong advocate for all the children of our community to ensure they have every support they need to grow up happy, healthy and feeling valued members of our society.
“My other priorities include supporting local farmers, particularly as they have been hit so hard by the ongoing challenges facing the sector, supporting local tourism and fisheries and doing everything I can to ensure there are homes for people at all stages of life.
“I really look forward to meeting with everyone on the campaign trail ahead of the election on June 7th.”
