One of Ireland’s most exciting rock tribute bands, Light Years, will be taking to the stage of the legendary McHugh’s Barrel Venue on the Cord Road on Bank Holiday Sunday, 2nd June.
Before the Covid shutdown, Light Years, formerly known as Pearl Jem, were regulars at McHugh’s and in their last appearance at the Venue five years ago they rocked the place to the rafters in front of a capacity audience.
The early ’90s triggered an explosion of Grunge and Alternative garage rock acts, from Nirvana to Sound Garden, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine. This is a night to celebrate that era.
Light Years have gone from strength to strength since they first got together in 2005 and are now regarded as Europe’s No 1 tribute to the Seattle giants Pearl Jam and are in great demand and not just this country, they are regular visitors to the UK and have played several dates across Europe.
As Pearl Jam fans first and foremost, they have taken a great amount of time and effort to ensure the show is nothing but a marker of love and respect to the source. In fact, so successful has their application to the task been, that the band came to the attention of the real Pearl Jam last year and a query about the proximity of the name resulted in an amicable solution whereby the boys will in future go under the new name of Light Years.
Showcasing Nigel Connell (aka Eddie Bed-Wetter) of The Madisons and Voice of Ireland fame, the band also features some of the cream of the Irish rock fraternity, including various members of the McRayburn musical mafia, plus resident musical henchman, Chris Carnage, on additional guitars.
LIGHT YEARS are not only the greatest Pearl Jam tribute band so far assembled, but in the opinion of the legendary Kerrang! magazine, they are the greatest cover band currently in existence!
