Triple Crown: Tredagh Boxing Academy Dominates at Emerald International Box Cup

Tredagh Boxing Academy had a superb run in recent competitions, with boxers bringing home multiple titles and medals from both the National Cadet Championships and the Emerald International Box Cup.

At the All-Ireland Junior Cadet U15 Championships, the academy entered two boxers. Ceejay Sheelan put in a strong performance, winning his first bout to advance to the quarter-finals.

While a close split decision went against him in the quarters, he showed great skill throughout the bout.

Andrew Mathews faced the current All-Ireland Champion in his quarter-final. Andrew delivered a masterclass performance to win by a unanimous decision, booking his spot in the semi-final.

In a very close semi-final bout, he was narrowly beaten by a split decision. His opponent went on to win the championship, showing just how close Andrew was to an All-Ireland title.

Four Boxers Crowned at Emerald International Box Cup

The club then entered four boxers into the Emerald International Box Cup in Dublin, with all four making it to the finals and three being crowned champions.

  • Ceejay Sheelan boxed brilliantly against a tough opponent in the final, controlling the ring and landing fast, hard-hitting combinations to win by unanimous decision and be crowned the Emerald International Box Cup Champion.

  • Andrew Mathews faced a very good English champion in his final, using a strong skillset to land hard-hitting crosses and earning a standing count in the final round. He won by unanimous decision to become the Emerald International Box Cup Champion.

  • Charlie Flanagan boxed a tough opponent in the final in what was a cracking three-round bout. He ultimately had to settle for a silver medal after a split decision went the other way.

  • Grace Conway gave away two weight divisions in her final against an English champion. Boxing cleverly, she used her trademark hard-hitting backhand and swift combinations to secure a unanimous decision win, crowning her the Emerald International Box Cup Champion.

All four boxers put in great performances, with the academy winning six out of seven bouts.

Andrew, Ceejay, and Charlie are all part of the Leinster Development Squad, while Grace trains with the Ireland Squad and is awaiting selection for the European U-19 Championships.

Tredagh Boxing Academy offers various training groups for all ages, and new members are always welcome.
