Climate Clash: An Taisce Challenges Data Centre Permission for Former Premier Periclase Site

An Taisce has lodged a formal appeal against the planning permission granted by Louth County Council for a new data centre in Drogheda.

It is due to be built on a new data and energy industrial campus at the former Premier Periclase factory along the Boyne Road in the town.

All of the old factory is scheduled to be demolished as part of the development.

Louth County Council granted permission despite previous objections from An Taisce, the Irish national trust
One of the heritage group’s main objection to the project was it would facilitate a breach of the emissions reduction obligations under the Climate Act.

However planning consultants the PM Group acting for the developers said the proposed regeneration of the site would represent a major improvement in the overall carbon emissions for the country.

The new campus would also have other commercial mixed use units.

An Taisce made a third party appeal against the development to An Bord Pleanala on July 24 last
The original conditional planning permission was granted by Louth County Council last June.
