A lunchtime protest is planned outside Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda on Tuesday, 29th September, as senior nurse and midwife managers and related grades begin industrial action.
The protest is scheduled to take place from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and is one of a number planned at hospitals around the country.
Around 3,500 nursing and midwifery managers and linked grades are involved in the dispute, represented by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Psychiatric Nurses Association and SIPTU.
Those taking part include Directors and Assistant Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners and Nurse and Midwife Tutors.
The work-to-rule is due to begin on 29th September over what the unions describe as the non-implementation of proposals to modernise pay and grading structures.
Dispute affects services across health system
The grades involved work across a wide range of healthcare settings, including general hospitals, community services, public health nursing, maternity and paediatric services, psychiatry, long-term care and palliative care.
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is among the hospitals involved in the wider industrial action.
The INMO says the system used to determine pay for senior nursing and midwifery managers has been an outstanding issue for a number of years.
Alongside Drogheda, lunchtime protests are planned at a number of hospitals around the country, including Cork University Hospital, University Hospital Limerick, St Vincent’s University Hospital, the Mater, Letterkenny University Hospital, Galway University Hospital and Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar.
