The Mayor of Drogheda, Declan Power has called on residents and local businesses to display the county colours in support of the Louth senior football team, who have reached their first All‑Ireland semi‑final since 1957.
The appeal follows Louth’s dramatic victory over Monaghan on Sunday, a result that secured their place in the last four of the championship. The team will face Mayo on the weekend of July 11–12, with a spot in the All‑Ireland final now just 70 minutes away.
The Mayor said the achievement had generated “a surge of pride across Drogheda and the wider county” and encouraged households, shopfronts, community organisations and sports clubs to show visible support in the run‑up to the game.
Local businesses are being asked to decorate premises in red and white, while residents are encouraged to display flags, bunting and other county colours.
The Mayor described the semi‑final appearance as “a landmark moment for Louth football” and said strong community backing would help underline the significance of the team’s achievement. “I’m also working on a coordinated response with Louth County Council to ensure that we display our town centre with red and white and show our support on this historic occasion,” said Mayor Power
