Members of Network Ireland Louth gathered at Creative Spark in Dundalk for an inspiring June event focused on building confidence and strengthening communication skills in business.

Guest speaker Louise Keenan Clarke of Succeed with Confidence shared her journey from a successful banking career to launching her own business and highlighted the vital role effective communication plays in leadership, entrepreneurship and professional success.

Louise spoke about leaving a career of over 20 years in banking to realise her dream of setting up her own business in helping people communicate better and thereby becoming better business leaders. Her belief is that if we can level the playing field so that everybody feels confident in terms of how they are communicating as part of a core part of their leadership skills, then we actually hear all voices.

During the session, Louise highlighted that many people do not feel naturally confident when it comes to public speaking, yet the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively is a key skill in business. Whether pitching to investors, presenting to clients, leading a team, or simply sharing an idea, effective communication can make all the difference. She gave the statistic that 75% of the global population cite fear of speaking in front of an audience.

Louise reminded members that while technical skills may get you into the room, it is often how you communicate, connect, and lead once inside that determines your level of success. She encouraged attendees to be clear, concise, and authentic in their messaging, noting that the more succinctly a message is delivered, the more powerful it can be.

The session also explored practical ways to build confidence, including visualising success, using affirmations, and practising positive self-talk. Louise reassured members that nerves are a healthy and natural part of speaking in public but emphasised the importance of surrounding yourself with encouraging people who reinforce a positive outlook.
