specially commissioned headpiece carrying a road safety message became one of the talking points of this year’s Drogheda Motor Show.

Created by local milliner Alison Connolly of Connolly & Moore, the piece was unveiled during Saturday’s event and worn by Drogheda & District Chamber President Miriam Simon.

Designed to encourage people to think about road safety and responsible driving, the headpiece formed part of a wider programme delivered at the show in partnership with Louth County Council, the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána.

Organisers say the piece will now remain on display locally as a reminder of the importance of staying safe on the roads.

Road safety takes centre stage

Road safety was a central theme throughout this year’s event, which took place in its new town centre location.

A dedicated panel discussion on the show’s live stage brought together representatives from the motoring industry, finance sector, local media and road safety organisations.

The discussion was led by motoring journalist Shane O’Donoghue and included Alan Reynolds of Brian Reynolds Car Sales, Laura Durrigan of First Citizen Finance and Katie Kierans of Drogheda Life.

Speaking during the event, O’Donoghue highlighted how quickly distractions behind the wheel can have serious consequences.

“Distraction can happen for one split second, and that can be the wrong second,” he said.

More than just cars

While the Drogheda Motor Show is known for showcasing the latest vehicles, organisers said the event continues to place a strong emphasis on community engagement, education and public safety.

This year’s programme combined family entertainment, local businesses and road safety awareness, with the specially commissioned headpiece becoming a visual reminder of the message organisers hoped visitors would take away from the day.

The event attracted large crowds throughout the day and organisers have indicated that road safety will remain a key focus of future Drogheda Motor Shows.
