Residents in the Rathmullen and Hillview areas are calling for action over ongoing illegal dumping and bonfires on waste ground between the two estates.
Concerns intensified after a bonfire was lit on the site last weekend, prompting a response from the fire service amid fears it could spread to nearby properties.
Local councillor Pio Smith said the area has become a recurring dumping hotspot, with tyres, pallets and other waste regularly left on the site despite repeated clean-up efforts by Louth County Council.
According to Cllr Smith, council crews recently removed a significant amount of rubbish, but new material is often dumped shortly afterwards.
“The majority of decent people living in Rathmullen and Hillview are sick of it,” he said.
The councillor is calling for a joint response involving Louth County Council and An Garda Síochána, along with tougher penalties for illegal dumping and the lighting of bonfires.
He has also suggested measures to make the area less accessible for dumping and storing materials.
Residents have raised concerns about both the environmental impact of the dumping and the risk posed by fires close to homes.
