A new civic focused event is set to take place in Drogheda this weekend with the launch of the Drogheda Civic Trust Summer School 2026.
The two day event will run on Friday 8 May and Saturday 9 May and aims to create space for discussion, shared ideas and fresh perspectives on issues affecting communities locally, nationally and across Europe. Organisers say the Summer School is intended to become an annual forum for open dialogue and engagement.
The programme begins on Friday evening at 6.30pm with an opening panel titled “Shared Horizons – Building the Future Together.” Speakers for this session include Ivan Yates, Peadar Tóibín, Ged Nash and Matthew O’Toole.
Events continue on Saturday morning at 10.00am with a discussion focusing on Europe’s opportunities and challenges in a changing global landscape. Speakers include Thomas Byrne, Dan O’Brien, Cathal Berry and Deirdre Heenan.
Both sessions will take place at St Peter’s Church of Ireland Conference Centre.
Organisers have invited members of the public to attend, particularly those with an interest in civic life, current affairs and community development.
“This is about creating space for conversation and new thinking,” a spokesperson said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming people from Drogheda and beyond to be part of something new.”
Attendance at the Summer School is open to all.
