Living City Initiative Now Open in Drogheda

Community campaign launches free online tool as Budget 2026 scheme opens door to town centre regeneration.

Drogheda Residents Urged to Check Eligibility for Living City Initiative

Homeowners, landlords and businesses in Drogheda are being encouraged to check if they qualify for the Living City Initiative, a government tax relief scheme confirmed for the town in Budget 2026.

The call comes from Drogheda City Now, which has also launched a free online eligibility checker to help people understand if they can benefit from the scheme.

The Living City Initiative offers tax incentives for the renovation and conversion of older buildings in designated historic town centres. It aims to tackle vacancy, reduce dereliction and encourage more people to live and work in town centres.

Drogheda’s inclusion in the scheme follows years of campaigning by local community and business groups. The new online tool allows property owners and businesses to quickly assess their eligibility and find out what steps to take next.

“This is one of the most significant policy wins for Drogheda in years,” said Anthony Murphy of Drogheda City Now. “But a scheme only works if people know about it and use it. We’re asking every homeowner and business in the town centre to take two minutes to check their eligibility. This is real money, for real buildings, in our town.”

The initiative forms part of a wider push to support regeneration in Drogheda’s town centre, with a focus on increasing activity, addressing vacancy and supporting local investment.

Drogheda City Now is continuing its campaign for city status for Drogheda while also supporting projects and events aimed at strengthening the town’s economy and community.
