Drogheda United return to league action on Friday night with a trip to Tolka Park to face Shelbourne.
The Boynesiders come into the game following a difficult outing in their last league match against St Patrick’s Athletic, where they trailed 3-0 at half time after goals from Aidan Keena and Kian Leavy, along with a Conor Keeley own goal.
Kevin Doherty’s side made three changes at the break and showed improvement in the second half, creating early chances through Andrew Quinn and Ryan Brennan. Brandon Kavanagh pulled a goal back after capitalising on a mistake outside the box, but the game finished 3-1 to St Patrick’s Athletic.
Drogheda were back in action on Monday in the Leinster Senior Cup, fielding a much changed side that included several U20 players against Bray Wanderers. The match ended 1-1, with Bray progressing 6-5 on penalties.
Earlier this season, Shelbourne came out on top when the sides met, overturning an early Brandon Kavanagh goal to secure a 2-1 win.
In team news, Drogheda are expected to be without Scott Brady, Owen Lambe, Ethan O’Brien, Leo Burney, Jason Bucknor, Mark Doyle and Bridel Bosakani, all of whom remain sidelined through injury ahead of the trip to Tolka Park.
