Sound Town is bringing a new energy to Drogheda’s night time scene, offering a monthly surge of events, creativity and special offers led by some of the town’s most passionate promoters and makers.

Built around a simple idea, Sound Town aims to give people more reasons to come into town, stay longer and connect with the grassroots culture that makes Drogheda unique. By bringing together creators, venues and audiences, the initiative is helping to shape a more vibrant and connected night time experience.

The idea grew from activity that was already happening across the town. Droichead Arts Centre had been developing its Night Moves programme, opening cafés late and exploring new ideas after dark, while Deadly Craic Comedy Club was consistently drawing strong monthly crowds. Organisers recognised the opportunity to combine these efforts and create a shared moment each month, turning the last Friday into a coordinated night of activity across Drogheda.

Sound Town continues to build on that foundation, bringing together a wide mix of events and experiences. These include Boyne Sounds Trad from the Boyne Tradfest team, The Cottage Market’s makerspace events in Bare Food, and the regular comedy nights hosted by Deadly Craic Comedy Club. Droichead Arts Centre continues to push creative boundaries through its Night Moves programme, while local businesses such as Escape Rooms Drogheda and others are adding to the growing line up each month.

At its core, Sound Town is a town wide effort. It is open to venues, promoters, makers, cafés and creatives who want to get involved and contribute to the programme. The initiative is designed as a platform rather than a fixed schedule, allowing new ideas, events and collaborators to be added over time.

Drogheda’s night time scene is evolving, with new grassroots activity emerging alongside more established offerings. While the shift towards online entertainment has changed how people spend their time, there is a growing appetite for authentic, in person experiences. Sound Town is helping to channel that demand, creating opportunities for people to reconnect with the town and each other.

The programme delivers chouce, encouraging a wide range of events, from comedy and traditional music to craft workshops, DJs, late cafés and live performances. The aim is to create nights where people can explore, move between venues and experience something different, turning an evening out into a more dynamic and social experience.

Drogheda’s character plays a key role in what Sound Town offers. With its strong sense of identity, growing creative community and location along the Dublin Belfast corridor, the town is well placed to attract audiences while maintaining its own distinct voice. Events are designed to be accessible, authentic and rooted in the local community.

Collaboration is central to the initiative’s success. By working together, organisers and venues can share audiences, promote events more effectively and create a stronger overall offering. This collective approach helps support the local economy while also building a more sustainable cultural scene.

Night time culture remains an important part of the town’s identity, providing spaces for people to relax, socialise and experience live entertainment. Initiatives like Sound Town aim to strengthen that offering and highlight what Drogheda has to offer.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a sense of energy and belonging, where people feel connected to the town and confident in its cultural life. Organisers hope that those attending events will experience not just entertainment, but a shared sense of community and pride in what Drogheda is building.
