Bellewstown Racecourse celebrates 300 years of racing

Bellewstown Racecourse is marking a major milestone this year as it celebrates 300 years of racing.

Located in County Meath, the racecourse has been part of the local sporting and social scene since its first meeting in 1726. Over the years it has built a strong reputation for its atmosphere, setting and community connection, welcoming generations of racegoers, owners, trainers and jockeys.

To mark the anniversary, a programme of events will take place throughout 2026, including feature race days, community celebrations and tributes to those who have been part of Bellewstown’s story over the past three centuries.

As part of the celebrations, new facilities are also being introduced at the racecourse. These include a new weigh room designed to provide modern amenities for jockeys and officials, along with the opening of the 1726 Restaurant, offering a unique dining experience inspired by the racecourse’s history.

Jack Gogarty, Chairman of the Bellewstown Racecourse Committee Board, commented:
“As we approach our 300th anniversary, we are not only celebrating our rich history but also looking forward to an exciting future. Bellewstown’s unique racing experience continues to thrive, and we are committed to ensuring it remains a highlight of the Irish sporting calendar for generations to come. The new weigh room and the 1726 Restaurant are just two examples of our ongoing investment in the racecourse’s future.”
