Road safety works begin at Mounthanover Junction on Beamore Road

New road safety works have begun at Mounthanover Junction on the Beamore Road, a move that has been welcomed locally.

The works include new signage, updated road markings, removal of one of the walls, along with paving and kerbing. The project is expected to take around six weeks to complete and will involve the temporary closure of the link road between the junction and the top of Platin.

Councillor Stephen McKee said: “I warmly welcome the commencement of new road safety works at Mounthanover Junction. These works include new road signage, road markings, the removal of one of the walls, paving and kerbing. Works will continue for about 6 weeks and will mean the temporary closure of the link road between Mounthanover Junction and the top of Platin.”

The improvements follow ongoing concerns raised about safety at the junction, where a number of serious accidents have occurred in recent years. Local residents have been raising the issue for some time.

“These works come on foot of extensive lobbying of Meath County Council by local residents and I over a period of time now. I have regularly been raising road safety issues at Mounthanover Junction at Council meetings and with Council Officials and I am pleased that action is being taken. Sadly, there have been a number of tragic accidents at this location over the last number of years.”

Previous measures at the junction included additional stop signage and refreshed road markings, but more comprehensive works are now being carried out.

“We need to ensure that these measures make a difference in greatly improving road safety at this location. I would like to thank local people for their support in keeping this issue front and centre,” he added.
