National Masters Indoor Championships – Athlone
What a fantastic day for Drogheda & District AC at the National Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships in the TUS Arena, Athlone, with the club delivering an incredible haul of 14 medals, 7 Gold, 5 Silver, and 2 Bronze. There were standout performances across the board, with many athletes producing personal bests, indoor bests, and superb championship runs.
One of the performances of the day came from Robbie Keane, whose runs in both the 1500m and 3000m were outstanding. In only his first year competing in Masters competition, Robbie stormed to double gold, clocking 4:19.06 (PB) in the 1500m before returning to dominate the 3000m in 9:20.46. A remarkable achievement and a sign of even bigger things to come. There were more gold medal performances from Mary Leech, who won the W50 3000m in 10:55.72 and also claimed silver in the 1500m, Mark O’Shea, who secured a superb double gold in the M50 1500m and 3000m, Gerry O’Connor, who took the M60 400m title, and Colin Leonard, who ran strongly to win the M40 3000m. Silver medals were added by Andrea McCabe (W55 800m), Kieran McGrath (M45 800m), Austin McCann (M40 400m)
and Tony Corcoran (M60 60m), with Tony also taking bronze in the 200m final.
Another highlight was Ernesto Saborio Cordoba, who delivered a brilliant performance to
win the M35 800m in 2:01.81 (PB), taking control of the race from the gun and never looking
back in a convincing front-running victory. Ernesto also added a silver medal in the 400m with an indoor PB of 53.60. There was also a bronze medal for Jimmy English in the M35 400m, along with PB performances across the sprints, while Yasmin Canning ran a strong race to record a new indoor PB of 2:39.58 in the W50 800m. Paul Stuart also ran well in the M40 400m, finishing 7th in 59.71. A superb championship for the club with fantastic performances across the track.
Also representing the club and breaking a world Record in the 200m mixed relay Deirdre McFerran. A sporting moment for Deirdre and the club, it’s a powerful reminder of what determination, resilience, and belief can achieve.

Congratulations to all athletes who represented DDAC so proudly.
Dunboyne 10K showed also a another strong performance from Drogheda & District AC, highlighted by a fantastic 1st team prize from our leading quartet, Aaron Hanlon led the charge with an outstanding run to finish 4th overall, backed up superbly by Sergii Raschupkin, Brian Martin, and Colin Dyas to seal the team victory, a serious performance against a competitive field. There were also some excellent individual highlights, with Nuala Reilly taking 1st place in her category and a host of PB performances on the day from Brian Martin, Colin Dyas, Andy McDonnell, Barry Foley, Robbie Farrell, and Rachel McCormack, a great reward for the hard work being put in.
Strong running right through the squad made it a very successful outing all round.
