The Irish Walled Towns Network held its annual AGM at Drogheda Civic Offices on Thursday 26th February. Cllr Michelle Hall, Mayor of Drogheda Borough District, welcomed representatives from some of the network’s 33 member towns and spoke about the important contribution that heritage can make to urban regeneration.
The Irish Walled Towns Network is an initiative of the Heritage Council and brings together representatives from 33 member towns across the island of Ireland. Membership is based on application and is available to towns that have or had historic defensive walls.
Attendees concluded their trip to Drogheda with a visit to St Laurence’s Gate, which has been described as easily the finest piece of medieval town fortification surviving in Ireland.
