DkIT Student Films to screen at Droichead and An Táin This Spring

Student films created by Dundalk Institute of Technology students are set to screen at Droichead Arts Centre and An Táin Arts Centre as part of their Spring Film Seasons, continuing an established collaboration between the two venues and the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at Dundalk Institute of Technology.

The screenings feature short films produced by final year students on the year long Film Project module of the BA Hons in Film and Television Production. The series will run in both arts centres until April 28th.

Five short films are included in the programme, each exploring themes such as identity, grief, control and the fragility of reality. How Did We Get Here follows a man in a dystopian world forced to choose between his family’s wellbeing and his own ambitions. I Can Fix You centres on Charlie, whose emerging identity places strain on her relationships as fears from her past begin to surface. Trapped tells the story of Lily, whose seemingly perfect life begins to fracture as unexplained events cause her to question what is real. A Ballad of the Bittersweet and Broken traces a young girl’s journey through grief following the loss of her sister, finding comfort and healing through music. Exposure follows a young man rebelling against his repressive mother, setting him on a dark and unexpected path.

As part of the Film Project module, third year students conceive and write original scripts before working in groups across the academic year using an industry standard production process. This includes weekly production meetings, fundraising, securing locations, casting, sourcing props and costumes, conducting script readings, preparing risk assessments and scheduling shoots. Filming took place across the region in February and March 2025, followed by post production work in picture and sound, supported by ongoing feedback from lecturers Sarah McCann, Colm Mullen, Eamonn Crudden, Lorcan Dunne, Marina Hughes, Kevin Cunnane and Richie Price. The films were first screened at a Film Showcase at the IMC in May 2025 and have since been submitted to film festivals in Ireland and internationally.

Collette Farrell, Director of Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda said:
