Fianna Fáil councillor for South Drogheda and East Meath, Stephen McKee, has confirmed that new bus shelters are to be installed in Donacarney later this year.
The shelters will be located on the Garra Road, close to Castle Glen, and will be delivered as part of the council’s Schedule of Works Programme for 2026.
Councillor McKee said he has been lobbying for the shelters on behalf of local residents and intends to continue pushing for additional locations to be included in future phases of the programme. He said the long term aim is to see bus shelters provided at every bus stop across East Meath.
He said that continued population growth in the area means residents must be able to access reliable and high quality public transport services. He added that improvements are needed across all transport and public services, including basic infrastructure such as bus shelters.
Councillor McKee also noted that a number of bus shelters have been installed in other parts of East Meath in recent years following lobbying and support. He said it is welcome that Donacarney has now been included, but stressed that further locations are still needed and that he will continue working to expand the rollout.
