The 23-year-old arrives in Drogheda after signing with LA Galaxy for the 2025 season, having been selected 20th overall in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft following his time at the University of Michigan.
Bucknor made 27 appearances across all competitions in 2025 for Ventura County, LA Galaxy’s affiliate club in the MLS Next Pro League.
Before turning professional, Bucknor enjoyed a successful collegiate career with the University of Michigan. Across four seasons with the Wolverines, he made 59 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. His performances earned him a place on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2021, while he was also selected to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team on two occasions. He played a key role as Michigan qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
Bucknor is also a product of the Inter Miami Academy, where he progressed through the Major League Soccer system and made 13 appearances for Inter Miami Fort Lauderdale CF in USL League One.
Speaking about the signing, manager Kevin Doherty said he was immediately impressed by Bucknor’s ability.
When I first watched Jason, I got really excited. He is a strong attacking option for us on both sides and is also excellent defensively.
He is predominantly a right-sided player but has played a lot of games on the left and can operate in a number of different roles.
He is a player I think the supporters should be excited about. He is physically strong, has excellent athletic ability and contributes to goals.
We had a number of conversations with him before he joined us, and I am really looking forward to having him as part of the group.
Jason Bucknor said he is eager to get started at the club.
It is an honour to sign with Drogheda United, and I cannot wait to integrate with the team. I am excited to bring joy to the fans with my style of play and to help win many games as we fight for trophies together.
