Residents angry after pedestrian laneway damaged by construction machinery.

Residents have raised serious concerns about damage to the pedestrian laneway at McEvoy’s Lane, a well used route connecting Lagavooren Manor, Avourwen and Rosevale to the Platin Road.

The laneway has been used by local residents for many years as a key pedestrian link between housing estates and the Platin Road. Locals say they have repeatedly asked both Meath and Louth County Councils to have the route properly surfaced, as it is largely a mud and stone track that becomes particularly difficult to use during winter months.

In recent weeks, residents say the condition of the laneway has significantly deteriorated after builders, which are carrying out construction works on lands adjacent to the route, began using it as a shortcut for smaller heavy machinery. Locals claim this has been happening for approximately a month and has resulted in deep tracks, churned ground and further damage to an already poor surface.

Residents say the laneway is now unsafe for pedestrians and effectively impassable at times, particularly for older people, children and anyone with mobility issues. The situation has caused widespread frustration and anger within the surrounding communities, who rely on the route for daily access.

According to residents, the construction company does not have permission to use the pedestrian laneway for construction traffic or heavy machinery. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the laneway crosses the boundary between Meath and Louth County Councils, which locals say has contributed to delays and a lack of clear responsibility in addressing the issue.

Residents are also appealing for greater awareness of the issue and are urging both local authorities to intervene and ensure the laneway is protected and restored for the community
