Nash says Marymount and Educate Together school builds must be on next week’s list

Local Labour TD Ged Nash has said that two long-awaited school building projects in Drogheda must be included in the Government’s new school buildings list, which he expects to be published next week.

Deputy Nash said the long-promised new building for Marymount National School in Ballsgrove and the permanent campus for Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School at Colpe can no longer be delayed.

“These are two key local projects I have been closely involved with for years. I have lobbied relentlessly to ensure commitments turn into real action,” he said.

Nash confirmed that the Department of Education has now approved minor internal adjustments to the Marymount NS plans, clearing a key hurdle.

He also criticised the delays affecting Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School, which has spent more than ten million euro on temporary accommodation over seven years despite receiving full planning permission for its permanent building almost a year ago.

“It is beyond time that construction finally begins at what is a wonderful school community,” Nash said.

The Labour TD added that the National Development Plan Education Sectoral Plan is due for publication next week and stressed that Drogheda cannot be overlooked again.

“There can be no more messing around. These two schools, and other key local projects, must be announced next week with urgent timelines for delivery.”
