South Drogheda and East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee has welcomed confirmation that long-awaited road safety upgrades are finally on the way for the Beamore Road.
Responding to a question he tabled for next week’s Local Area Council meeting, Meath County Council has told Cllr McKee that safety improvement works are scheduled to take place at Beamore Cross and Mounthanover Cross in the coming weeks.
“This will be very welcome news for local residents and for everyone who uses the Beamore Road,” Cllr McKee said. “I’ve been raising concerns about these junctions for some time, and I’m pleased to see progress being made.”
The Council also confirmed that the Beamore Cross Safety Scheme is currently at Phase 2 the option selection stage while Mounthanover Junction has been included in the local authority’s 2026 Safety Improvement Works grant application to the Department of Transport.
Cllr McKee said urgent action is needed along the entire route.
“There are simply too many accidents happening on this stretch of road. The Beamore Road from Colpe to Platin must be treated as a priority for safety upgrades. I’m glad the Council recognises the seriousness of the situation, and I will continue to keep the pressure on.”
