Call for urgent safety measures after three-vehicle collision at Termon Abbey junction

A serious three-vehicle collision at the Termon Abbey junction this morning has renewed calls for immediate safety upgrades in the area.

Community activist Peter James Nugent, who has repeatedly raised concerns about the junction, said today’s incident is exactly what residents have long feared. Emergency services, including Gardaí and an ambulance, attended the scene.

“The situation at this junction has been poorly managed and consistently overlooked,” Mr Nugent said, adding that he is deeply frustrated that ongoing safety concerns have not been addressed.

With both Aston Village School and St Joseph’s CBS in close proximity, more than 1,200 children pass through the area daily.

“Their safety must be prioritised,” he said.

Mr Nugent is calling for the urgent installation of safety railings at the junction to protect pedestrians and reduce the risk of further accidents. He confirmed he will be writing to Louth County Council today seeking immediate action.
