Drogheda Credit Union Celebrates International Credit Union Day

Today, Thursday, October 17, 2024, is the 76th annual International Credit Union (ICU) Day and Drogheda Credit Union is proud to unite with credit unions worldwide to celebrate a moment dedicated to honouring the enduring legacy of the credit union movement, highlighting its accomplishments, and recognising the role credit unions play in enriching the lives of their members.

Since its inception in 1948, ICU Day has been observed on the third Thursday of October. This year’s theme, One World, underscores the integral part that credit unions play in fostering global solidarity through member-owned, cooperative financial systems. In an era where divisions seem to widen, this theme reinforces the credit union ethos of “people helping people” and their power to bring individuals and communities closer together.

Commitment from credit unions remains unwavering to deliver financial solutions that prioritise members’ needs over profit. From our trusted in person services to our convenient online presence, credit unions continue to support communities across the island. Through our bursaries, community sponsorships, community development projects, credit unions have been a strong pillar in giving back to the community.

Tom Kiely, CEO at Drogheda Credit Union said “Drogheda Credit Union has proudly served the areas of Drogheda, East Meath, Dunleer and Trim for over 56 years, supporting a membership base of 55000 individuals.

“As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, Drogheda Credit Union is dedicated to the financial health of its members, offering a comprehensive range of services tailored to their needs and the needs of the community. Through our community contribution of €70K per year, we strongly believe in giving back to the community.”

Our branches will have hampers to raffle among members who call into a branch during the week of International Credit Union Day and we look forward to celebrating the essence of credit unions and the crucial role they play in building stronger, more inclusive communities.
