Scotch Hall Turns 20: Two Decades at the Heart of Drogheda

There aren’t many places in Drogheda that everyone knows quite like Scotch Hall. For twenty years, it’s been part of the town’s heartbeat, a place to meet friends, grab a coffee, and make memories big and small.

Since opening in November 2005, Scotch Hall has stood proudly at the centre of Drogheda’s retail and social life. For the past two decades, it’s where families have gathered for some of the town’s biggest moments, from the Drogheda United Homecoming and Midsummer Festival to the Leinster Fleadh, National Services Day, and the annual Santa Arrival Night that lights up the riverside each year.

Scotch Hall has truly become the place to be when the community comes together.

With its scenic views of the Boyne, modern design, and mix of local and international retailers, Scotch Hall has always been more than a shopping centre. It’s a cornerstone of community life in Drogheda and one that continues to evolve with the times.

A Place That’s Grown With the Town

Like every shopping centre, Scotch Hall has changed over the years, reflecting how people live, work, and shop. One thing that hasn’t changed is its willingness to adapt and keep things fresh.

In recent years, the centre has added a JD superstore, a bank, welcomed the wonderful Cottage Market, and opened the hugely popular Omniplex cinema, now a firm favourite for families, couples, and movie fans across the North East.

The Cottage Market in particular has brought a lovely local energy to the centre, with friendly stallholders offering homemade jams, bakes, crafts, and gifts. It’s full of colour, chat, and creativity, and is always worth a visit.

A Week of Celebrations

To mark its 20th birthday, Scotch Hall is celebrating in true local style with a week full of events and surprises starting Monday, November 10th.

Throughout the week there’ll be goodies, giveaways, and treats for shoppers as a thank-you for two decades of support.

The big celebration takes place on Thursday, November 13th when Scotch Hall hosts its 20th Birthday Bash from 4pm to 8pm. Expect live music, a DJ, photo booths, and discounts of up to 50 percent in many stores.

That evening also marks the launch of the Big Christmas Giveaway, where shoppers who spend €30 or more in any store will be entered into weekly draws leading up to a grand prize of a €3,000 holiday voucher just in time for Christmas.

Santa’s Spectacular Arrival

Then on Friday, November 14th, Santa makes his grand return to Drogheda with a touch of magic that’s become a true town tradition.

In association with the Boyne Rescue and Recovery Service, Santa will arrive by boat down the River Boyne to the delight of children and families gathered along the riverside. The evening will feature performances from the Drogheda Brass Band, a Kidkast showcase, a festive parade through the boardwalk and mall, and a fireworks finale lighting up the night sky.

Looking Back, and Ahead

After twenty years, Scotch Hall still feels like a big part of Drogheda’s story. It has seen the town grow, welcomed new faces and businesses, and continued to evolve while keeping its community spirit at the centre of everything.

The team say this celebration is really a thank-you to everyone who has made Scotch Hall part of their lives.

And as we head into the festive season, they’re encouraging locals to keep shopping close to home. Every coffee, every Christmas gift, every visit helps keep the town centre thriving.

Here’s to twenty more years of Scotch Hall memories.
