MCKEE HOSTS SUCCESSFUL STUDY SKILLS NIGHT FOR LEAVING CERT STUDENTS

Local South Drogheda & East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee hosted a well-attended Study Skills Night for Leaving Cert students last Thursday at The Glenside Hotel, Drogheda. The event drew a large crowd of sixth-year students eager to pick up practical tips ahead of their exams.

Cllr McKee, a secondary school teacher by profession, said:

“I’d like to thank all the students who attended on the night. It’s a privilege to be able to offer this event to our local exam students. As a teacher, I hope students got something useful from the night to help them with their exam preparations. I wish them all the very best of luck.”

McKee has a key message for all Leaving Cert students – “learning happens in three steps”:

  1. Paying Attention: Focus is the foundation of learning. Multitasking — whether chatting in class or checking your phone while studying — prevents full understanding.
  2. Processing Information: True learning takes effort — reading slowly, revisiting material, looking up new terms, and asking questions.
  3. Practice: Repetition is the key to memory. As McKee reminded students, “Practice makes progress.”

The event was praised for its practical advice and supportive atmosphere, equipping students with strategies to approach their final months of preparation with confidence.
