PBs, Medals and World Championships – A Huge Week for Drogheda & District AC

Drogheda & District AC athletes delivered big performances this week across road, cross country and international events.

At the Rathfarnham 5K, Paul Smith stormed to a category win in 15:28, with Rodney Thornton close behind in 16:08. PBs poured in from Paul Kierans (16:37), Morgan Reid (16:40), Thomas Breen (17:38), Shaun Conroy (18:21), Alan Wade (18:39) and Alan Foley (19:28). Ciara O’Reilly led the women home in 21:07.

The club’s juveniles shone at the Louth Open Cross Country in Newtownstalaban. Eve Cunningham won the U11 Girls, Rian McLaughlin (U9 Boys) and Hannah Cunningham (U15 Girls) claimed bronze, while the U15 Girls took team gold and both the U9 Boys and U11 Girls secured team bronze.

In the Athlone Half Marathon, Roisin McGeough ran 1:43, with PBs for Brenda Collins Kirwan (1:55) and Siobhan Kinsella, finishing alongside Alan Floyd and Raymond Hoey in 2:21.

Conor Cooney (23:17) and Olivia Reilly (24:19) picked up category wins at the Business Houses 5K in Blanchardstown, while Aoife Mundow flew the flag for Ireland at the World Championship Long Course Trail in the Pyrenees, completing one of the toughest races on the circuit.
