Lease Negotiations Stall Drogheda Driving Test Centre Launch

The long-awaited permanent Driving Test Centre for Drogheda has been delayed due to protracted lease negotiations, but confirmation on an opening date is expected soon, according to Louth Labour TD, Ged Nash.

Deputy Nash said he has been in regular contact with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Minister after the original target of late August or early September passed without progress.

“The RSA has written to me confirming that lease negotiations for the site are taking longer than anticipated. The process is being worked through and they expect to have positive news on an opening date, soon,” he explained.

In the meantime, Nash confirmed that testers recruited for Drogheda are already working in other centres across the region to help ease waiting lists.

“It is important to remember that you won’t be able to apply for a test at the new Drogheda centre until it is open and operational,” he said. “If you have applied for your test in Navan or Dundalk, and the Drogheda centre opens before you are called for your test, you will be able to switch to the new centre.”

Deputy Nash, who has campaigned for years for a permanent centre, added: “We have waited a long time for this service. A wait of what the RSA expects to be another few weeks will be worth it when the centre is finally in place.”
