Drogheda Triathlon Club’s first Duathlon of 2021 took place over the weekend and while the event took place virtually due to COVID restrictions with everyone staying within the 5k limits, one couple took part in New Zealand.
Altogether 47 members completed a 3km run, followed by a 20km cycle and finished off with another 3km run, all of it taking place within their 5km radius.
Club spokesperson Ray Donagh said that the members were delighted to have two of their stalwart associate members, Brett Reid and Helen O’Shaughnessy, join in from New Zealand.
“To make the event more interesting, the competitors were divided into teams with Sinead Delaney’s Team taking the title narrowly from John Sherry’s Team.
“The most important thing was that everybody got an opportunity to get back into competitive mode. As Ken Shevlin said, it was “good to get the heart rate up to high levels again”.
“It was great to get the first event behind us and everybody is looking forward to a similar event in March, when we will have a little bit more training under our belts.
Of course, we are all longing for the day when we can get back on the road, and in the water for the real thing.
“We are always welcoming new members, so if you are interested, please contact us through our Facebook Page
