The Gardaí are winning more and more battles in the war against dealers of illegal drugs in Drogheda.
For the second time in a week Gardai have seized drugs worth in excess of €10,000 in Drogheda in searches under Operation Stratus which was set up to disrupt organised crime.
On Saturday last, May 1, members of the Louth Divisional Drug Unit based in the town seized almost €11,000 worth of suspected methamphetamine and cannabis herb.
At approximately 9.00 pm on Saturday Gardaí searched a house on the Rathmullan Road and seized suspected methamphetamine worth €5,275, and cannabis herb (pending analysis) worth €5,450.
Other drug paraphernalia including a weighing scale and mobile phone were also seized.
One man in his early 50s was arrested at the scene. He was brought to Drogheda Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
He has since been charged in connection with this seizure and has been released on bail pending a court appearance.
This search was conducted by The Divisional Drug Unit of Louth based at Drogheda targeting the sale, supply and distribution of drugs in Drogheda and is related to Operation Stratus, which is aimed at disrupting organised crime in Co Louth.
Last Tuesday morning in a search under Operation Stratus, which is targeting organised crime in Drogheda, suspected cannabis herb worth an estimated E24,000 was seized.
Gardai arrested a man aged in his 50s after they searched a house and found a package containing 1.2kg of what, pending analysis, is believed to be the drug.
The man was charged and released on bail to appear in court at a later date.
