The Minister for Education Norma Foley has said that she expects the new school buildings at Whitecross National School in Julianstown to be completed by Mid-August.
The news, which was welcomed by Deputy Fergus O’Dowd, came in the form of a response to a Dail question from the local TD.
“The project commenced on site in May 2019 and subject to no issues arising It is envisaged that the school building will be ready for occupation mid-June 2021” the Minister said.
“Phase 2, of the project which consists of site works, carpark, landscaping etc is due for completion in mid-August 2021.”
O’Dowd said he was very proud to organise the visit of the then Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, in March of 2019 to turn the sod on what promises to be a state of art campus for the young people of Julianstown for generations to come.
“This update is very welcome considering the impact Covid 19 has had on projects throughout the country over the last 12 months.
“I wish Principal Doran, his staff and the pupils all the very best in what will be a very exciting new term in 2021.
O’Dowd added “Separately, I continue to campaign for progress on the Julianstown Bypass project and the Minister for Transport has this week outlined to me that Meath County Council are yet to commence their origin and destination reports.
“The report when completed will give a clear indication of all traffic and commuter movements and patterns in and around Julianstown Village with a view to informing a wider transport study for the Drogheda and East Meath area.
“Covid 19 has brought with a significant reduction in vehicular numbers through Julianstown Village, and while they are still high it is of the utmost importance that the reports accurately detail the shocking level of congestion the village has been subject to pre covid.
“In the background I would also like to commend Niamh Uí Loinsigh and the members of the Julianstown District Community Association for their trojan work in progressing road safety issues in the background making the village a safer place for all.”
