Free fun for children and young people at Cruinniú na nÔg Louth

Cruinniú na nÓg, an annual day of free fun and creativity for children and young people, takes place on Saturday week, June 12th.

The event, which is being run by Creative Ireland in conjunction with Louth County Council, is a fun packed line up of workshops and activities online. Although it has been a challenging year, children and families have shown their creative side in so many ways during this period. This Cruinniú na nÓg programme encourages children to further embrace this creativity and get involved.

Budding young musicians and young people with an interest in careers within the music industry will be keen to check out Music Matters, presented by DKIT and Droichead Arts Centre. 

This live Q & A with an exciting panel of music industry experts, from artists to producers and sound engineers will give young people an insight into these exciting careers.

Young creative stylists eager to learn how to upcycle clothes will really enjoy a workshop hosted by fashion designer Bláthnaid McClean who will show how to create your own style by painting designs onto denim and tie-dye with natural dyes found at home. 

Creative Spark have a treat for young artists with workshops tutorials on the arts of collage, illustration, and glitch art.

On a totally different note, anyone interested in the exciting lives and adventures of the Vikings in Louth will really enjoy a hands-on workshop with activities include making a Viking longship and learning about the fascinating discoveries of the Vikings.

For dance fans, there is a Tik Tock dance workshop with Coastal Ballet, where the latest dance crazes will be taught.  

Other highlights of the day include a film premiere ‘Aoife and the Children of Lir’ – a new story and film commission produced by Droichead Arts Centre.  And for the younger audience, Mini Music Makers host an engaging workshop – How Does Your Garden Grow, for 1 – 5-year-olds with enchanting music and magical characters.

All events are free, but booking is required. Materials will be provided for a selection of the workshops and can be collected in advance from venues. All activities and events are in conjunction with An Táin Arts Centre, Droichead Arts Centre, DKIT, Creative Spark and Louth County Libraries.
