As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Down Syndrome Ireland is today launching a national raffle to raise €100,000 for the charity, which is mostly reliant on the generosity of the public to deliver its vital services and supports throughout the country.
The raffle will support the DSI community at a local level through the charity’s branch network as well as helping further develop supports at a national level ensuring continued support to people with Down syndrome across the lifecycle.
Barry Sheridan, CEO of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI), said: “This year marks 50 years of Down Syndrome Ireland, a charity with supports 3,500 people with Down syndrome and their families across Ireland.
“Many people would be surprised that 50 years into our existence, we still rely on the huge generosity of the public to raise 80% of our running costs each year. That is why our fundraising efforts are so important.
“We are so grateful to each and every person and corporate partner who help us to continue to provide our vital services and supports across the country.”
Today also marks the first day of Down Syndrome Awareness month, which takes place in October each year.
