Drogheda’s Tredagh Boxing Club has made a massive impression on the international boxing scene, bringing home an incredible four gold and three silver medals from the prestigious Manchester International Box Cup 2025.
The elite tournament saw Tredagh’s talented junior team compete against top fighters from across Europe. The trip was more than just about medals—it was a crucial opportunity for the young athletes to gain invaluable experience, build team camaraderie, and enjoy a memorable weekend.
The club’s exceptional performance saw Ceejay Sheelan, Emma O’Gorman, Adam Walsh, and Cian Smyth all crowned champions in their respective categories. Each delivered a masterclass in the ring:
-
Ceejay Sheelan secured his gold after a high-calibre bout against an experienced Great Britain opponent.
-
Emma O’Gorman showcased her powerful backhand cross to dominate her Irish rival and claim the top spot.
-
Adam Walsh gave a technical masterclass, out-boxing his opponent with an almost perfect display of skill.
-
Cian Smyth fought a strong English boxer, using a wide array of combinations to wear down his opponent and win by a unanimous decision.
The club also celebrated three brilliant silver medals. Keith Muma and Jamie Campbell both battled through thrilling, close-fought finals, while James Hackett displayed incredible heart, pushing his opponent to the limit in a stunning final round.
The success didn’t stop in Manchester. Back in Ireland, Cara Evans was crowned champion at the Monkstown International Box Cup, adding another gold to the club’s impressive tally.
Furthermore, four Tredagh youngsters—Tommy Mc Cooey, Emma Carter, Roisin Evans, and Shay McIllarney—took their first steps on the competitive ladder, participating in skills bouts at the same Monkstown tournament in Dublin’s National Stadium.
The club’s achievements are building on previous successes, with Jack Newman having won gold at the Senior Manchester Box Cup and Grace Conway, a nine-time All-Ireland champion, now attending High Performance training with the national squad.
The future of Tredagh Boxing Club looks incredibly bright, with this talented generation of boxers representing Drogheda with pride on the international stage.
