With patient numbers growing daily, the Louth & East Meath Labour TD Ged Nash has called on the HSE to ‘look again’ at the need for a Covid 19 testing centre in Drogheda.
“The 14-day incidence rate to the 1st November in the Drogheda urban area is one of the highest in the country. It stands at 254 cases, or 918 per 100,000” he said.
“I have spoken to people with Covid 19 who have discussed with me the barriers they have faced getting close contacts who are family members to the testing centre in Ardee.
“If we are to do everything we can to stop the march of the virus, the government and the HSE needs to do everything they can to halt in its tracks.
“That means providing access to swift testing in our major population centres especially when the data shows a propensity for high rates of the disease in a specific area during the course of this pandemic, as has been the case in the Drogheda area.
“The HSE needs to seriously re-examine the case for a full testing centre in Drogheda to arm the community with all the tools necessary to keep ourselves safe and well at this worrying time.”
