“I am excited to get stuck into things and effect as much positive change for the town as possible”
LMETB has announced the appointment of Gráinne Berrill as full-time Coordinator of the Drogheda Implementation Board which was established following the publication of the report by Vivien Geiran called ‘Drogheda : Building a Bridge to a Better Future’.
The Drogheda Implementation Board is responsible for coordinating change in Drogheda through the actions outlined in the Drogheda Implementation Plan launched by the Minister for Justice in July which included 70 recommendations to improve community safety and wellbeing through greater cooperation by State agencies and others.
Gráinne is well known in the Drogheda area after almost six years at the helm of the Louth Volunteer Centre where she became particularly well regarded through her leadership of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Volunteer Programme in 2018 and 2019.
Grainne’s new role at the Implementation Board will be key in linking the work of the Drogheda Implementation Board with local communities.
“I know how important the work of Drogheda Implementation Board and the recommendations in the Geiran report are to Drogheda and the wider area” she said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for some real positive impact and change for our town.
“The Government has promised to put a ‘special focus’ on Drogheda when it comes to funding applications for projects in Drogheda related to the Drogheda Implementation Plan and I am really looking forward to working with local community organisations and public bodies so that we get the best possible outcome for the people of Drogheda from the report.
“The obvious commitment and support from LMETB in hosting the coordination mechanism will be also really important in the delivery of the plan” she said.
The Chair of Drogheda Implementation Board, another Drogheda native, Micheal Keogh, noted that the Board as a whole welcome Gráinne’s appointment to the role of Coordinator.

“It is great to have someone with so much local knowledge join us as Drogheda Implementation Board Coordinator” he said.
“Gráinne also brings considerable experience in delivering projects, working with a wide variety of agencies, and in particular her connections with community sector organisations.”
When asked about the change in role Gráinne said, “Of course I am more than saddened to be moving away from Louth Volunteer Centre, I believe passionately in the impact and power of volunteering and the Volunteer Centre was more than a job to me”
“But I also believe passionately in the potential the work of the Drogheda Implementation Board will have for Drogheda, my hometown, and am excited to get stuck into things and effect as much positive change for the town as possible over the next couple of years.”
