Drogheda’s Darkness into Light in aid of Pieta House takes place on 7th May 2022 starting at O’Raghallaighs GFC, North Rd at 4.15am.
Most of the attendance will be made up of walkers or runners but ace kayaker Andy Wilson has been in touch to say that he and four or five of his colleagues will also be taking part – on the river Boyne.
“We hope to launch onto the river Boyne at 4am on Saturday morning from the slipway at the Boyne Fishermen Rescue service on the Marsh road” he said.
“We will paddle up river through Drogheda to the cable bridge and back down river hopefully as the sun rises in the east.”
Meanwhile, the Drogheda Darkness into Light committee are seeking stewards and volunteers to help with refreshments at the event.
Volunteers are being asked to meet at the O’Raghallaigh’s GAA grounds at 4.00am while stewards will meet at the O’Raghalllaigh’s at 3:15am and will marshal the route. A short briefing will be held before the event.
Parking is available free of charge at Smiths garage carpark on the North Road and the HSE carpark at Crosslanes.
Stewards will direct people at junctions and encourage people. If you can help out for a few hours your efforts will help to make this vital event happen.
You will be helping to raise funds for Pieta House, to raise awareness of suicide prevention and to help bring many people together to walk / run in solidarity and remember friends and loved ones who have died by suicide.
