Drogheda/East Meath Councillor, Stephen McKee, says he is pleased that Meath County Council have agreed to implement urgent road safety measures at Mount Hanover junction on the Beamore Road within the next few months.
The Fianna Fáil Councillor said he had been raising road safety issues at the Junction for some time with Meath County Council and is pleased that the Council has now given a commitment that they will close off the link road that joins up with the main Duleek-Drogheda road at the top at Platin.
“Something urgently needs to be done as there are simply too many accidents happening at the junction” Councillor McKee said.
“Additional road signage is needed too and I think closing the link road at the top is worth pursuing at least on a trial basis to see if it makes a difference.
“Meath County Council tell me that they have already carried out works on the junction between the main Drogheda-Duleek road and the Beamore Road to ensure that HGV’s can safely turn at that junction in the event of the top road being closed off.
“We need to ensure that any measures taken are not counter-productive and that they achieve both road safety and ensure continued ease of access but this is certainly good news for road safety at this location” concluded McKee.
