Liverpool String Quartet bring tangos, romance and mermaids to Drogheda

The Liverpool String Quartet bring a programme of exciting tangos, a romantic quartet and a work inspired by mermaids to St Peter’s Church of Ireland on Friday November 4th at 7:30pm.

Formed by musicians who met while playing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the quartet has collaborated with a vast number of composers and performers. Hailing from Ireland, London, Spain and Liverpool, individually the musicians bring their own inspiration to form this dynamic ensemble.

For this concert, they will play their own arrangement of Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the South American rhythms and colours make this a very popular work for audiences particularly when the familiar melodies of Vivaldi shine through.

Irish composer Deirdre Gribbin took inspiration from the sea for her 2007 composition inspired by the stories of mermaids which create webs of sound, almost like shades of the sea or water.

The concert ends with great depths of romance in the first quartet by Austrian composer Zemlinsky. Inspired by Brahms, this quartet is deemed to be an inportant milestone in the music of the time. Often lost amongst more famous names, Zemlinsky found a rich, unmistakable, musical language.

Individual Concert Tickets are €20 (€18 conc.) and can be booked in advance through Droichead Arts Centre on 041 9833946 or www.droichead.com with further information available from www.droghedaclassicalmusic.com

The Series is funded by the Arts Council and Louth County Council and run in partnership with Droichead Arts Centre with sponsorship from WhitelightEvents and RTÉ Supporting the Arts.
