Owner of Big Tree eyesore given deadline by Council

Two months ago Councillor Declan Power said that it is shameful that the owners of the Big Tree in Clogherhead have allowed the building go to rack and ruin.

He described the building as “…a complete eyesore” that should never have been granted planning permission in the first place because “it is totally at odds with the character of the village.”

A dangerous and derelict site notice was placed on the building and the Council boarded it up but the owners have not carried out the work that was requested of them.

The owners of the building have argued that the building is not derelict but Louth County Council do not accept this and have given them until November 22nd to do derelict site work.

“If the owner does not carry out the work necessary on this property, it will be placed on the derelict site register” said Cllr. Power

“Until recently, no works were done under the dangerous site notice, and Louth County Council secured the front door. This week the owners have placed disclaimer site notices on the building, and I believe some work has now commenced.”

“The village of Clogherhead deserve better” Cllr. Power said, adding that nobody should have to live with this eyesore.

“I want to thank Louth County Council for working with me on this issue and ensuring that the building owner takes responsibility.”
