Tomorrow, Wednesday March 8, is International Women’s Day for which the theme is: #EmbraceEquity. In Drogheda there will be a concert on Thursday in the TLT’s Prop Bar, organised by the Mayor, Councillor Michelle Hall, exploring what Gender Equity actually means for women.

In aid of Irish Motor Neurones Disease Association and Turkish/Syria Disaster Relief, the evening is a celebration of women in Drogheda through musical entertainment and conversation.

Music will be provided by Voices of the Boyne Choir, the children of Loving Life Choir, while Dom McGroddy, whose wife Lily has Motor Neurone Disease will hopefully say a few words about Lily’s journey through her illness.  Sonu Raichal Alexander from India will perform traditional dances.

Speakers at the event will include Ejiro O’Hare and Jasmine Orjazz Jasu from Hands4Unity whose aim is to bring women of all backgrounds and races together to support each other in a caring environment.

Also speaking will be Yana Prokopenko from Ukraine, Cllr Joanna Byrne of Drogheda United, Claire and Louise from Voices of the Boyne Choir, and ‘Mother of the Mayor’ Olive Smith who left school at the age of 12 to work in Donaghy’s Mill.

“This will be the third event and biggest event I’ve organised for International Women’s Day and I’m delighted to be able to host it as only the second female Mayor of Drogheda in almost 800 years” Councillor Hall said.

“The evening is about uplifting all our spirits as we come into Spring and empowering each other to raise one another up. All genders are welcome and we especially love to see male allies come along.

Tickets are €10 each and are available on Eventbrite
