Have your say on DART+ and Louth Local Development Strategy

The Drogheda City Status Group (DCSG) has called on political, business and residential groups and individuals in Drogheda, East Meath and South Louth to ensure they have their say at two important local meetings being held this evening and tomorrow.

The first of these meetings takes place this evening at the d Hotel and again tomorrow evening, May 18th at the Market House, Dunleer, where attendees can outline their ideas how the €4.9 million that is available under the Louth Local Development Strategy 2023-27 should be invested.

DCSG Chairperson, Anna McKenna, said that there are three key themes which cover a wide range of possibilities.

They are:

  1. Economic Development and Job Creation
  2. Rural Infrastructure and Social Inclusion
  3. Sustainable Development of the Rural Environment and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption.

People planning to attend should ideally register (not mandatory) by emailing                       IE-FMlouthlocaldevelopmentstrategy@kpmg.ie

Then on this Thursday, May 18th – starting at 4pm in the d Hotel, Drogheda and running until 8pm – Irish Rail are hosting a public consultation regarding the planned DART+ rail service which will serve Drogheda; Laytown and Gormanston, and onwards to Dublin.

“This will be an important information forum, Anna said, “especially for the thousands of daily rail commuters residing in the Greater Drogheda Region.”

“While increased frequency is welcome, there are suggestions that the new rolling stock will lack toilets; tables and even overhead storage. This will raise concern among rail users, especially those who for medical reasons need access to an on-board toilet – such as pregnant women; the elderly and those with certain medical ailments.

“In addition, this is an opportunity for residents living on the north side of Drogheda and adjacent towns and villages to engage Irish Rail regarding the reopening of Dunleer Station and the development of a new Drogheda North Station to respond to growing demand.”

Details of this public consultation and a webinar on Tuesday, May 30th can be obtained by emailing dartcoastalnorth@irishrail.ie
