A carpenter from Brookville called Paul Kierans told me a couple of days ago that he and some of his friends are planning to do a burpee marathon on July 29th to raise funds for the wonderful Tredagh Lodge Alzheimer Day Care Centre.
To be honest I’d never even heard of a burpee before, Paul had to explain to me what it is, he even had to tell me how to spell it!
A burpee is a squat thrust with an additional stand between repetitions, it is a full body exercise used in strength training. The movement itself is primarily an anaerobic exercise, but when done in succession over a longer period can be utilized as an aerobic exercise. (That’s according to Google at least).
So, it’s a bit like a press up with a jump into the air but much more complicated and dangerous looking so don’t try it at home without supervision.
Paul and his friends are planning to 1,000 burpees during their fundraiser which is taking place beside Sports Direct at the M1 Retail Park on Saturday week, July 29th and he is looking for as many people as possible to support him.
Relax, you don’t have to do any burpees, just make a donation at his Idonate page.

The Alzheimers Association and Tredagh Lodge in particular, is very close to Paul’s heart – he lost his dear mum Caroline to the horrible disease last September – and he is a regular fundraiser for them.
“We hope we can raise some much needed funds for this great cause” Paul said. “Families suffer enough by seeing their loved ones go through this horrible disease and we just want to make their lives a small bit easier.”
