Almost €280,000 has been awarded to community groups and organisations, all of them in the East Meath area, from the Community Grant Scheme run by waste to energy operator Indaver at their plant at Carranstown.
As a condition of their planning permission Indaver must make a donation to the local community for every tonne that is accepted into the Waste-to-Energy facility.
Welcoming the announcement local Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee said he is delighted to have played a role in securing the funding for various clubs and organisations in the East Meath area.
“As the closest neighbour to Indaver, I am pleased that Duleek AFC Soccer Club is the biggest beneficiary this year and will receive €50,000 to replace the Club’s all-weather surface for the benefit of all club players.
“I am particularly pleased to have supported our local GAA Clubs, Duleek-Bellewstown GFC, St. Mary’s Donore and St.Colmcille’s GFC who between them will receive €70,000.
Duleek-Bellewstown will receive €40,000 towards the Club’s new Fitness & Wellbeing Centre, St. Colmcille’s GFC will receive €20,000 towards the extension of their gym while St. Mary’s Donore will receive €10,000 towards the installation of solar panels.
“Many other clubs, groups and associations in the area will also benefit from the fund this year. €50,000 has been awarded to Duleek & Bellewstown Parish for the restoration of the Community Hall in Bellewstown while €25,000 has been allocated to continue the development of the Duleek, Bellewstown & District Community Facility on the Navan Road, Duleek.
“The Fund is managed by the Community Liaison Committee of which I am a member and the fund is designed to provide financial assistance to local community-based clubs and voluntary organisations for the development of community projects and works in the locality.”
“There is obviously a limited fund available, but I am pleased that so many local groups and organisations will benefit this year from the scheme. They make a huge contribution to our communities. I will continue to work hard on behalf of all our local groups” McKee concluded.
