Drogheda United fan group ‘The Famous 45 Ultra’s’ are to host their first ever sleep out as part of a fundraising drive for Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge, on December 2nd at Home of the Drog’s – Weaver’s Park.
‘Drog’s Sleep Out’ will be part of a series of fundraisers between now and Christmas organised by the group to support women and in particular children this Christmas and will also tie in with the Club’s Annual Christmas Food Appeal.
In a build up to their sleep-out, the F45U kick-started their month long campaign to raise funds for the worthy charity last Friday night at Drog’s last home match of the season with a series of bucket collections on the gates.
A spokesperson for the group of youngsters said they chose the Refuge as the sole recipient of their fundraising as they wanted to focus on helping Children this Christmas, and the most vulnerable Children at that.
The Sleep Out is supported by Drogheda United FC, and Club Chairperson Joanna Byrne is encouraging all Drogs supporters to get behind the young fans group and support their endeavours to help alleviate the plight of the local refuge to offer assistance to those they serve this Christmas.
“I commend the F45U for taking the initiative to channel their energy in the off season into something so worthwhile” Joanna said.
“A Sleep Out is something that’s never been done before at the Club, but we are fully supportive of this and happy to host the lads at the ground.
“There’s great potential for the Club and the fan’s to collectively make a difference to our community and this is the relationship I want to continue to build with our fans.
“I’ve every confidence that Drog’s will rally in their droves to contribute to this fundraiser and I’d encourage them to do so, every little bit donated will go a long way to making a huge difference.
This event will ironically kick-off at 7.45pm on Saturday evening, December 2nd, and conclude at 7.45am the following morning.
