Three Drogheda boxing clubs to take on a selection from Armagh/Down

Drogheda has a proud tradition of producing great boxers – there’s Socks Byrne who won bronze in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, and  Ireland’s first female boxing world champion Deirdre Gogarty of course but there are many others who have also excelled at one level or another.

Between them the three local Boxing Clubs – Drogheda Boxing Club, Holy Family Boxing Club and Tredagh Boxing academy based in Termonfeckin cater for hundreds if not thousands of young people offering them an outlet for their energy and a place to train and practice their skills.

Now the three clubs are getting together for the first time to create a Drogheda Boxing Team who will box against an Armagh/Down selection.

With sponsorship from the Drogheda Implementation Board, the event takes place on 19th November in The Barbican Centre in William Street, Drogheda.

The first bout starts at 3pm and admission is FREE to allow everyone to go along and support local talent.

With 30 top class bouts, approximately 10 boxers from each club and a number of provincial / national and international boxers from both teams taking part,it promises to  be a magnificent showcase.

Come along and cheer on the boxers on the day. Sure what else would you be doing on a Sunday afternoon in winter?
